Internet promotion has established itself as the new way to advertise products. These suggestions can help you make some more money.

Cultivating a significant customer base today is heavily dependent on your presence in social media networks. Facebook is a very popular option, and it?s free! Customers can leave feedback on your products, make suggestions, and ask questions. Twitter can allow you to communicate informally with your customers.

Show customers why your product or service works and is the product they need. If you can make a video showing the success of your product, you will sell many more customers on the idea that the claims of success you are making are actually true. Selling products you really use yourself allows you to provide your own authoritative views on their usefulness.

TIP! You can improve your internet marketing by starting a blog and posting to it frequently. You can inform customers through a fresh avenue by blogging regularly.

On all emails you send out add your own personal signature. Your e-mails are like your business cards on the internet. You should make sure they are spread as far as possible. People you send emails to will probably visit your website and judge you based on your business.

Your ad should incorporate the term ?limited.? People turn to Internet shopping as an alternative to what traditional stores offer. People want items that are unique and different. By marketing limited edition products, consumers will be more likely to quickly purchase it before you don?t carry it anymore.

If you are working with a well-developed marketing plan, you will be aware of which products are the most profitable in your line. These should be your mainstays in drawing future sales. When a customer buys one product, always recommend a related product or accessory. This way, you will spend less on advertising these newer products, because they are riding on the coattails of your already popular items.

TIP! Don?t abandon those projects that don?t work right away. Some great ideas are simply before their time or need to be rethought and tweaked.

Press releases can really draw more visitors to your web site. Focus on writing informative, relevant and interesting press releases, then distribute them to trusted outlets. This is an excellent way of boosting your standing on the Internet.

One way to increase the number of customer contacts is to develop a page asking for email addresses. Its purpose is to solicit email addresses from potential customers. The things you can offer here are endless. You could offer up a free eBook, some type of other informational product, a discount on a future purchase, etc. You will get another person on your email and they will get a nice freebie.

TIP! Performance and appearance can be very important to your Internet marketing success. Follow a regular schedule of checks and follow-ups on your sites links, ads or anything else that impacts the buying experience.

Consider how good your product or service actually is. Even with stellar online marketing strategies, a product that isn?t up to par will not allow a company to thrive. Having a good product to begin with is your best way for boosting sales.

Look into what is most often complained about in your industry, and consider if there is an opportunity there. Why is this? By focusing on complaints, it?s easy to discover problems that need solving. Once you figure out what some of the common problems are, you can figure out what the solutions will be. This will help you find the right market to be in.

Look for distinctive, memorable ways to dole out prizes. One simple contest idea is to hide an image or word in various places throughout your website, and then ask your customers to locate them. Once they find these words, provide them with a discount or reward. If your customers like you and your site, they are more likely to buy something from you.

TIP! Make a game if you want to attract others to your website. Customers regularly look for free games to play online, and even a simple game will draw many of them back to your site again and again.

Stay on track with your advertising budget. You shouldn?t spend your dollars on services that won?t properly benefit your business. Ensure you know exactly what you are getting for your money when you invest it in your business. For this reason, advertising using banner ads can be a smart investment.

An unusual way of working your affiliate marketing is to take advantage of image searches. When a browser online searches some type of keyword, you will have a better chance of being found if you actually tag your images with the proper keywords. Even though it?s an image, it will still be indexed along with your site. People searching for photos may end up staying on your site and looking through all that is there. When people become more familiar with your website, they are more likely to return.

As mentioned previously, knowledge is power when it comes to Online marketing. Hopefully this article has given you new insights and ideas about how to improve your affiliate marketing strategies. You should keep these things in mind and reap the benefits.

TIP! Consider creating polls and placing them beside different content on your webpage. This will enable you to understand what your viewers think of your site.

Berry a good buy for Linn Energy, analysts say

Houston-based Linn Energy's acquisition of Berry Petroleum will boost Linn's presence in lucrative liquids drilling.

Analysts are greeting the news that Houston-based Linn Energy LLC is buying Berry Petroleum Co. (NYSE: BRY) with confidence.

The company said Thursday it intends to acquire the Denver-based company for $2.5 billion in stock, boosting its exposure to lucrative liquids and raising production by 30 percent.

Analysts at Raymond James & Associates in Houston reiterated their strong buy rating on Linn?s stock and noted that the company?s business model of buying mature assets and hedging out the risk exposure captures a significant cash margin to return to its shareholders as distributions.

The analysts said that Berry's long-life, low-decline reserves are an ideal fit for Linn (NYSE: LINE), and the companies have significant overlap in geographic areas such as California, the Permian Basin, East Texas and the Rockies.

Analysts at Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. in Houston agreed the buy makes sense given the desire of a master limited partnership to own long-loved, shallow-decline assets.

Linn's Q4 earnings reported Thursday of 41 cents per unit beat Raymond James? forecast of 18 cents and the consensus 39 cents.

Linn reported a net loss of $187 million for the fourth quarter; excluding special items, with adjusted net income of $94 million, compared to the year-earlier adjusted net income of $89 million.

Raymond James said better-than-expected price realizations and lower-than-expected general and administrative costs were partially offset by lower-than-expected production. Also, the company has drilled its first Hogshooter well in Mayfield, Okla., which is producing at a rate of 5,406 barrels of oil equivalent each day, 73 percent of it being liquids.

PlayStation 4 Controller

After months of rumor and speculation, Sony has revealed its new game machine ? the PlayStation 4 ? as well as a new controller with a touch... Read more

Why didn't Sony show the PlayStation 4 console at the PlayStation 4 unveiling? The truth is, it did. You might say to yourself that we didn't see what the shell of the PlayStation 4 looks like, so how can we be excited by a device which has yet to take physical form? Because this isn't an iPad, folks. The PlayStation 4 is not a device you store in your pocket and touch lovingly everyday (unless you know something I don't). This is about what the PlayStation 4 can do, and Sony spent two hours telling us exactly that.

The real PlayStation 4 is about the guts, and can be seen in the complex beauty of games such as "Killzone: Shadow Fall." It can be seen in the dedication to unprecedented sharing tools for gamers and stunning graphics engines being produced by people like Quantic Dream's David Cage.

I didn't expect we would see the plastic case of the PlayStation 4 at the event, and that's certainly not the only surprise that Sony is holding back. Showing the PlayStation 4 hardware would mean tipping their hand. So while we contemplate the PlayStation 4's inner beauty, let's also feel the thrill that there's more to come, and not just a molded plastic case.

Valve problems behind fuel leaks on JAL Boeing 787, Japan says

Home ? breakingnews ? Valve problems behind fuel leaks on JAL Boeing 787, Japan says

February 22, 2013 5:24 pm

A fuel leak on the jet during maintenance at Narita International Airport on January 13 was due to flaws in the valve?s coating, the Transport Ministry said.

That led to a false signal that the valve was closed when it was actually open, the investigators said.

On January 8, the same jet had to return to the terminal at Boston?s Logan International Airport after a fuel leak was detected while taxiing. The ministry said that a different valve failed to close because a foreign substance was believed to have been trapped.

On Friday, the ministry ordered Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways, which also operates Dreamliners, to double check fuel systems and valves before flights.

Boeing?s most sophisticated aircraft is also under investigation for possible battery problems after a Dreamliner jet made an emergency landing at an airport in western Japan in mid-January.

The incidents and others prompted the worldwide grounding of all Boeing 787s.//DPA

Sarah Jessica Parker and 5 Other Celeb Photoshop Fails

Sarah Jessica Parker loves fashion, but fashion magazines don't always return the favor. The 47-year-old actress, who has a history of being aggressively airbrushed for magazine covers, is now the victim of a cringe-worthy Photoshop hack job in Harper's Bazaar China. On the cover of the March 2013 issue, Parker's face has been strangely elongated and unnaturally smoothed, lending her a seriously alien appearance. We're pretty sure whoever retouched that photo needs to be sent back to their home planet.

Federal agency slammed over 'secretive' eagle-wind energy policy ...

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is considering eliminating most public oversight of wind turbine impacts on protected bald and golden eagles by offering developers 30-year permits to kill eagles by accident, as opposed to the current 5-year permits. What?s more, they?re shaping the implementation of that proposed policy change in a series of private ?stakeholders?? meetings to which the public is not invited.

That?s the takeaway from a letter sent Tuesday by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC), to the Department of the Interior. ABC is demanding Interior halt consideration of issuing 30-year eagle take permits until Sally Jewell, the incoming Interior Secretary, has a chance to examine the issue.

?The public places a high value on both Bald and Golden Eagles, two species that have inspired awe, pride, and patriotism in America?s citizens for generations,? said Darin Schroeder, ABC?s Vice President of Conservation Advocacy. ?The Bald Eagle is America?s national symbol and was only removed from the endangered species list in 2007. Thus, this important and highly controversial decision should not be made without the full participation and careful consideration of the new Secretary of the Interior.?

For Interior?s part, that Department?s Press Secretary Jessica Kershaw told ReWire ?We are in receipt of the [ABC] letter. The Eagle Tenure Rule remains under current review.?

According to ABC, the existing system of five-year-long ?take? permits would allow public and expert oversight of wind turbine impacts on eagles during the renewal process. Moving to a 30-year permit system would eliminate most opportunities for review; even if reviews were held at the end of each 30-year period, the level of public expertise available for those reviews would likely be much lower as participants in the previous review may well have retired or died in the three decades intervening.

Neither bald nor golden eagles enjoy protection under the Endangered Species Act, but since 2009 FWS has been authorized to issue take permits under the auspices of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (BGEPA), and since that time wind developers have complained that following the provisions of that law hurts their ability to profit from erecting turbines in eagle habitat. As recently as 2009, FWS seemed not to be too sympathetic to wind developers? complaints. In that year, the agency pointed out that take permits with ?tenures? lasting longer than five years were ?incompatible with preservation?:

?the rule limits permit tenure to five years or less because factors may change over a longer period of time such that a take authorized much earlier would later be incompatible with the preservation of the bald eagle or the golden eagle. Accordingly, we believe that five years is a long enough period within which a project proponent can identify when the proposed activity will result in take.?

What changed FWS?s mind? No one?s saying, though pressure from above is a safe bet. FWS is a sub-agency of the Interior Department, whose outgoing Secretary Ken Salazar reportedly clamped down hard on any of his fiefdoms that offered challenges to his overarching goal of developing as much renewable energy on public lands as the law, loosely interpreted, would allow. Salazar, whose pugnacity was the stuff of Internet jokes, is widely said to have issued gag orders to Interior agencies who might otherwise have legitimately objected to ill-sited, ill-thought-out renewable developments.

Whether that pressure would continue under the direction Interior Secretary nominee Sally Jewell is unknown.

Nonetheless, FWS seems to have taken the Salazar-era directive to heart, even in situations it didn?t expect to garner public attention. ABC?s press release refers to a rough transcript obtained by the San Diego-based Desert Protective Council (DPC) of a November 2012 meeting at the headquarters of renewable energy developer RES Americas, attended by 21 people including representatives of wind companies and trade associations, agency staff from FWS and USGS, and large environmental groups such as the Sierra Club and Audubon Society.

That transcript records David Cottingham, Senior Advisor to the FWS? Director Dan Ashe, starting things out by observing that the 2009 eagle rule was being revised, and saying that the purpose of the meeting was to ?discuss what can be done in the interim to enable wind energy projects to get permitted.?

That is, of course, an inversion of FWS?s stated mission, which reads ?to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.?

The November meeting seems to have been a typical ?stakeholder meeting,? at which a few carefully selected representatives of environmental groups meet with agency staff and industry people. The green groups in attendance included the Sierra Club, the National Audubon Society, Defenders of Wildlife, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Nature Conservancy, none of which are shown in the transcript as pointing out that FWS? mission is to protect eagles, not get wind projects expedited.

Instead, the bulk of the meeting as reported in the transcript concerned whether ? as participant Todd Katzner of West Virginia University put it ? wind facilities already in existence that kill eagles could be considered ?experiments in operational mitigation.?

There was more discussion of how operating wind facilities might contribute data on mortality that we can expect from operating wind facilities, but there was also relatively undisguised discussion of how to manage public perception of the issue, saving FWS?s face, while allowing wind development to proceed. As John Anderson of the trade group American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) put it;

We know there are facilities that are taking eagles now, and we know of a few applicants that are expected to take eagles. We need to develop a plan that meets the intent of the law and allow the Service [FWS] to demonstrate that they are upholding BGEPA while we address the long-term eagle policy issue.

That language is telling. AWEA isn?t addressing the long-term impacts of their members? facilities on eagles, but rather the ?long-term eagle policy issue.? And the group isn?t assembled to help FWS enforce the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, but to demonstrate that they?re upholding it. Abiding by the law isn?t at issue: public relations is.

Nowhere in this meeting, nor apparently the others FWS has convened, was there an avenue for public comment. In fact, the public comment period on the eagle tenure rulemaking closed almost a year ago, in April 2012. Giving special privileges to a few parties to offer comments on pending rulemaking when the public comment period has already closed is certainly unfair to the 700 members of the public that followed the deadline rules for comment on the eagle issue. As noble as the intentions of the environmental groups may be, they do not represent the public in any formal way: they are neither elected nor appointed by any elected official.

The letter by ABC to the Interior Department makes this point in no uncertain terms:

These meetings were held in response to a letter sent to the Secretary of the Interior last year, and they raise serious questions for the Fish and Wildlife Service related to the Federal Advisory Committee Act and other federal laws. Eagle take permits could affect the interests of many Americans and many industries, including the timber and rail industries, Indian tribes, and many more conservation and scientific organizations than have been allowed to participate in these invitation-only meetings.

?All of these eagle meetings should have been open to the public. Eagles are too important to the American people for FWS to determine their fate behind closed doors,? said ABC?s Darin Schroeder.

Insert Coin semifinalist Hodu is a 'zero failure' physical therapy hardware software combo

Hodu borrows its name from the Korean word for "walnut," a reference to the culture's use of the nut as an exercise tool in traditional medicine. The barbell-shaped device is a "zero failure" physical therapy tool, aimed at rewarding patients for even the slightest level of feedback. There are on-board pressure sensors and accelerometers for detecting activity and a series of colored LEDs that light up based on feedback levels. Tebow cancels talk at controversial Dallas church

(AP) ? New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow has backed out of an appearance at a Baptist mega church in Dallas run by a pastor who has created controversy with his remarks about gays and other faiths.

Tebow tweeted Thursday that he canceled a scheduled April 28 appearance at First Baptist Church due to "new information that has been brought to my attention."

"I will continue to use the platform God has blessed me with to bring Faith, Hope and Love to all those needing a brighter day," Tebow wrote.

The Rev. Robert Jeffress, First Baptist's pastor, confirmed in a phone interview that Tebow called him Wednesday night to cancel.

Jeffress said Tebow told him he would like to speak at First Baptist at some point, but "he needed to avoid controversy right now for personal and professional reasons."

Jeffress has preached that gay sex is sinful, Mormonism is a cult and Islam promotes violence and pedophilia. He said Thursday that First Baptist was being mischaracterized as a "hate church," and that the church's teachings were consistent with historic Christian beliefs.

Tebow wasn't going to speak about anything controversial, Jeffress said.

"We had planned for him to speak very positively about the difference Jesus Christ had made in his life," Jeffress said.

Tebow won two BCS championships and the Heisman Trophy at Florida, but he has struggled to make it in the NFL. He barely played last season after the Jets traded for him from the Denver Broncos, where he started much of the season in 2011 and won a playoff game.

Tebow is a devout Christian who has built a large following through his faith. He has addressed church audiences before. Last year, he spoke to about 15,000 people gathered at an outdoor Easter service north of Austin.

UK's "Big Four" accountants under fire from watchdog

LONDON (Reuters) - Companies in Britain could be forced to switch accountants to break up the cozy relationships between the "Big Four" and their clients, blamed for masking weaknesses exposed by the financial crisis.

The "Big Four" - KPMG, PwC , Ernst & Young and Deloitte - check the books of nearly all listed companies in Britain and around the world, and have often served the same clients for decades.

The UK's Competition Commission proposed that companies put out their audit work to tender every five to seven years, and change accounting firms every seven to 14 years - roughly in line with changes being discussed at the European Union level.

Investors would also play a role in selecting an auditor, according to plans put forward by the commission, which published preliminary findings from a probe it began in 2011.

The industry was put under scrutiny after auditor "complacency" was blamed by UK lawmakers for deepening the financial crisis.

The Competition Commission found that 31 percent of the top 100 companies in the UK and a fifth of the next 250 firms had had the same auditor for over 20 years.

Competition in the UK is restricted by factors that make it hard for companies to switch accountants, the Competition Commission found, and there is a tendency for auditors to focus on satisfying management rather than shareholder needs, it said.

The findings add weight to a draft European Union law which contains plans for boosting competition in the 27-country bloc's audit market which would override UK changes.

The United States is also mulling auditor rotation as the sector faces questions for giving banks a clean bill of health just before governments had to step in and rescue them in the 2007-09 financial crisis.

Critics have said the Big Four should separate out their audit and advisory units, a step the draft EU law looks at.

"The real issue we have identified is stickiness in the market," Laura Carstensen, who chaired the probe, told Reuters. "The question of break-up was not on our list."

There was "significant dissatisfaction" among big investors, the commission said, but changing the "long standing and entrenched" system would take time.

Its proposals go further than a recent change introduced by Britain's Financial Reporting Council (FRC), which requires companies to consider changing accountants every decade. The FRC said it was pleased the Commission was looking at taking more steps to enhance competitiveness and switching.

PIRC, which represents pension funds and fund managers, said mandatory rotation was the best way to ensure auditor independence and large shareholders increasingly favored this.

The commission also proposes banning "Big Four only" clauses, meaning banks could not insist on a borrower using one of the four top audit firms.

"GROSSLY UNDERESTIMATED"

The Big Four insist there is strong competition and point to downward pressure on fees and some recent switchings of auditors among big companies.

PwC said the Competition Commission had "grossly underestimated" the critical role the audit committees at client firms play in protecting shareholder interests.

Ernst & Young said it was pleased the watchdog found no collusion, abuses or excess profits but rejected accusations that the audit market was not serving shareholders, as did Deloitte and KPMG.

"In addition, we believe that competition between audit firms is healthy and robust and that the evidence supports this," E&Y said.

But second tier audit firms, such as Mazars, BDO and Grant Thornton, welcomed the findings after having argued it would not be worthwhile expanding unless there was some intervention to help prise open the market.

"It's clearly going to make a significant contribution in Brussels as the European institutions decide the way forward," said David Herbinet, Mazars' UK head of public interest markets.

The watchdog did not propose curbing the Big Four's advisory services such as tax to clients they audit and also said joint audits, whereby one of the Big Four must share a customer with a smaller accountant, was a non-starter for now.

Joint audits were a top demand from several mid-tier firms and could still be included in the EU law.

The Competition Commission will publish its full report next week and final, binding recommendations by mid-October.

The European Parliament's legal affairs committee is due to vote on the bloc's audit shake-up next month.

Tab for his ?Quadriginoctuple Frap? at Starbucks: $47.30

By Scott Stump, TODAY contributor

Armed with a 52-ounce coffee mug, a Washington state man headed to his local Starbucks to make history.?

Forty-eight shots of espresso, some protein powder, two bananas, a few caramel drizzle Frappuccino chips, some vanilla bean and a little soy later, Beau Chevassus ordered what may be the most expensive Starbucks drink ever on Feb. 9. He dubbed the $47.30 monstrosity the "Quadriginoctuple Frap."

YouTube

Starbucks employees in Enumclaw, Wash., were eager to prepare a potentially record-setting drink, Beau Chevassus said.

While the drink totaled nearly $50, he didn't actually pay for it. Starbucks gave it to him for free because it was his 27th birthday. He initially ordered 40 shots of espresso, but the baristas bumped him up to 48 as they got into the record-setting spirit. Chevassus posted his experience from the Starbucks in Enumclaw, Wash., just outside the company's home base in Seattle, on YouTube, where it has more than 140,000 views.

Related: Are you a struggling single parent?

Starbucks did not comment on whether Chevassus' order is a record. But he has apparently dwarfed what is believed to be the previous record, more than doubling the?$23.60 concoction purchased a year ago this month by Logan Warren of Geek on Call. That drink featured "one Java Chip Frappuccino in a Trenta cup,?16 shots of espresso, a shot of soy milk, caramel flavoring, banana puree, strawberry puree, vanilla beans, matcha powder, protein powder, and a drizzle of caramel and mocha.''?

YouTube

Beau Chevassus took several days to consume the prodigious Starbucks beverage.

"I did it for fun, for a bit of entertainment and to see if it is at all possible," Chevassus told the New York Daily News. "I was surprised how cool the Starbucks employees were. They seemed almost more interested in trying to set the record than I was."

Chevassus only took a few sips from the caffeine lake while in the store and then drank about half of it over the next few days.?

Can Acupuncture be Beneficial in Treating Seasonal Allergies?

Alternative therapies like acupuncture and Ayurveda usually goes unnoticed due to the lack of awareness on how effective it can be. But a new study conducted by Australian Medical Association may give a new direction to these practices, especially acupuncture

?

?

The research states that, ?acupuncture may be beneficial in treating seasonal allergy symptoms like runny noses and watery eyes, but the effect seems to be very small.?

?

According to a research conducted in the study of examining the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating seasonal allergies. The research found that 71 percent of people benefited after approximately eight weeks of acupuncture session, while 56 percent of allergy suffers who were treated with sham acupuncture as an alternative for comparison.

?

Dr. Harold Nelson ? Allergy Specialist at National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado says ? ?Acupuncture works, but there a couple of warnings for people who think of using it.?

?

He further explains by stating an example,? Accupuncture is very persistent, if you are comparing it to spraying a nasal steroid in your nose once a morning. Acupuncture is more time consuming and effective only if it is practiced through a licensed and qualified acupuncturist.? ?

?

According to a research conducted by Dr. Benno Brinkhaus from Charite-University Medical Center in Berlin, Germany, he selected 422 allergy sufferers and assigned them to receive real acupuncture, sham acupuncture and only take antihistamines.?

?

After eight weeks and 12 treatment session, the allergy symptoms dropped drastically among people who received acupuncture treatment. Among people who received sham acupuncture their allergy symptoms dropped from 2.3 to 1.8 and people on medication their symptoms dropped from 2.5 to 2.2.?

?

However, by another eight weeks after treatment ended, there was no longer any difference in the degree of symptom improvement between groups.

?

Acupuncture treatment can just help to make a half-point change on the symptoms, plus it is also considered safe.

?

Researchers aren't sure why it might help people with seasonal allergies, other than its possible beneficial effect on the immune system.

?

At times, people find nasal steroids much more beneficial than other therapies, because they feel it helps in preventing symptoms. The results and views can vary from person to person and their body types. ?For people who are depended on medicines for years, acupuncture might be a great deal.?

?

Dr. Li-Xing Man ? Sinus Specialist at the University of Rochester Medical Center, New York says ? ?though it cannot be used as an alternative, it can be first used as some sort of complementary medicines. If the acupuncture has good results, it can reduce the anti-allergic medication.?

Kansas City restaurant fire rubble searched for missing woman

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) - Firefighters on Wednesday resumed searching the rubble of a popular Kansas City, Missouri, restaurant destroyed by a natural gas blast and fire that injured up to 16 people and left a female employee missing.

Cadaver dogs explored the ruins of JJ's restaurant on the upscale Country Club Plaza shopping district overnight after the restaurant was engulfed by flames around 6 p.m. CST on Tuesday.

"At this time we are still searching for one victim and that is a female employee of the restaurant," Kansas City Fire Chief Paul Berardi said at press conference shortly before dawn.

Another employee reported missing late on Tuesday was found at an area hospital, he said.

Berardi said nine injured people were taken to hospitals and six or seven more went to hospitals on their own. Hospitals reported three people critically injured.

The restaurant and wine bar had several patrons inside at the time of the blast, Berardi said, along with employees. The explosion triggered a four-alarm fire that took 50 minutes to control.

Missouri Gas Energy said in a statement that first indications showed that a contractor doing work in the area had struck a natural gas line, but that the investigation was ongoing.

Conscious Communication, 1 of 2 - Psych Central Blogs

images-464Conscious communication is a way of talking and listening that is focused on nurturing strong, mutually enriching relationships.

Since most relationship problems are rooted in communications that are either avoided, forced or misinterpreted, the purpose is to provide an emotional experience that allows each person to feel safe enough to grow a quality relationship in which the emotional needs (not wants?) of each person are valued and met through natural giving.

To give naturally means to give consciously from a place of love or joy, rather than fear or guilt or shame.?Though expressed in a wide range of emotions and varying intensities, from the perspective of the body?s autonomic nervous system, love and fear are the two primary emotion signals or feeling-physiological states of the body. All emotions are rooted in either love- or fear-based feelings.

Your body-talk and actions speak volumes, carrying up to 80% of the meaning conveyed.

When you communicate consciously you employ your inner capacity to express your love in ways that stretch you, particularly when you may not ?feel? like doing so. You choose to do so because it?s how you heal and grow and strengthen your relationship; it?s also how you stretch your capacity to authentically love your self and another. In conscious communication, your relationship takes center stage. Your individual wants and needs remain important, however, you realize that your key relationships are food sources that nourish you as individuals to grow and self-actualize (and surprisingly your growth depends on your part, how you relation ? not the other).

And since the ingredients that strengthen your relationship have to do with the feeling states that you, consciously or subconsciously, energize in yourself and the other ? nothing is more important to your relationship than?how you treat your self and?the other in the moment.?

Setting a?conscious?intention refers to a choice you have at any moment to send messages to your self or others that the body (subconscious mind) translates to love (rather than fear), and does so automatically by?what?you think or say, and especially?how?you say it. It?s important to recognize nonverbal communication as a formidable force, carrying a larger punch than verbal.

8 Attributes of Conscious-Talking?

Communication that is effective consciously seeks to nurture, heal and grow healthy, mutually enriching, intimately strong relationships. In conscious-talking, you consciously seek to structure your communication in a way that will make it most likely heard, understood by the other. This way of talking consists of the following attributes, in which you:

1. Know what you need and want to say, and why.

Knowing what you want to say, and why, makes it more likely you will obtain the shared understanding and perhaps even resolution you desire. Without this, there is a risk of wasting your time getting stuck in old programs, i.e., complaining about what is lacking, blaming one another, or competing for the prize of ?who?s more victimized,? ?etc. Clarity allows you to avoid going around in circles, getting addicted to problems or unresolved conflicts, another waste of time.?So, before you set a time to sit down and talk, ask yourself the following questions: What do you need in the situation? What specific actions do you want from the other? What is the purpose of your communication? What understanding of your thoughts, feelings, etc., do you want to share? How do you want the other to respond to your communication? Whenever possible, especially for sensitive issues, take some time to first write down what you want to say and revise it based on these and other guidelines in this article.

2. Are aware of your body language and behaviors.

Your body conveys more information about you, and your intentions, than your words. One of the goals in conscious communication is to use your body language, in a conscious way, to let the other know you care and value them as persons. If you avoid eye contact, or turn your body away from the other, for example, this can signal disinterest or disregard in the other. This blocks communication. If you want communication to flow, you want to convey that you value the other, honor their ability to think and make choices, and so on. This increases the chances that they will do the same for you, thus, opening up the possibility for mutual understanding, validation and resolution. So, take time to become aware of body language. What nonverbal messages does your body send by the way you sit, stand, your voice, mannerisms, facial gestures and so on? Does your body say you are present or interested in the concerns of the other, or does it say the opposite? Does your communication or presence say you care about them as a person?

3. ?Share your thoughts and feelings, clearly.

Once you know what you want to say, then you want to convey it as clearly as possible. The clearer you are in what you want to say and how you express it, the more likely you will heard or understood. Share thoughts and feelings concisely. Avoid long explanations or repeating the same message over again. Speak in short sentences. Be specific and concrete.?Make requests.?Include brief examples only when relevant. Avoid mini lectures or lengthy speeches.?Avoid being vague or too abstract. Do not hint at what you want or expect the other to mind read, and be aware of any old tendency to do so.?Effective communication is about feeling heard and understood, not how much you say.

4. Express your thoughts and feelings, slowly.

When it comes to relationships, slow is fast, and fast is slow. This applies to your communications as well. When you talk fast, your words tend to blurt out faster than your mind can think. You may also be speaking faster than the other?s mind can think or process. When you hurry your talking, you hurry your thinking, and indeed may not be thinking at all, you may be speaking from the part of the brain (the subconscious mind!) that contains old recorded programs that seem to be ?thinking? yet are not. The more hurried you feel the less awareness you have of what is really going on inside you, that is, your thoughts, feelings, needs. In turn, the less clarity, the slower it seems to take to reach your destination. Additionally, a pressured description risks triggering subconscious defensive strategies, toxic thinking patterns, which is about as healthy to your relationship, as gulping down a greasy, starchy meal is to your body.

5. Share painful emotions assertively.

Communicate your frustrations in ways that let the other know you are in charge of your emotions, that you are relatively calm, confident and centered. This sends a twofold message to other. First, it tells them you are in charge of your self, your emotional states and body?s physiology, and not what they say or do.?Assertive communications include four essential parts: (1) your thoughts or perspective; (2) your feelings; (3) your core needs or emotion-drives; and (4) at least one specific action-request.?(This means you also avoid actions that trigger you, i.e., judging, fault-finding, blaming, attacking, complaining, etc.) Second, it also tells them you believe in their capacity to do the same, to be in charge of their emotions and actions. When you express yourself assertively, you stand up for yourself in a way that honors your own and the other?s dignity. That is a powerful feel good. You each have a clear sense of your own responsibility in the matter. You feel safe enough to accept and thoughtfully process criticism from others without defensiveness. And, you know how and when to give apologies.

6. Are conscious of timing.

Timing can make a big difference. It can be just as important as how and what you say. For example, it is usually not a good idea to bring up sensitive issues right before a meal when blood sugar is low, or just before you or the other leave for work, or when one of you is not having a good day. It is also not a good idea to bring up issues in the heat of the moment, when you are angry and hurt. Instead, the act of scheduling a good time itself can be an important way to set the stage for a productive discussion.

7. Are aware of meanings beneath what you communicate.

Your communications send both open and hidden messages. The open part consists of the words and content of what you say. The hidden part is what goes on beneath the words?the emotional undercurrent of what each person is instinctively yearning for in the interaction. What words you use and how you say them can carry emotional meanings that you may or may not want to send. It is important to become aware of these underlying meanings and the core emotional needs that interplay in all communications. Underlying messages can be either positive or negative.

These emotions are more powerful than the overt message because they go directly to the subconscious part of the brain that does all of the interpretations.

8. Keep the message positive and upbeat.

Maintain an upbeat overall attitude at critical moments in the communication to give assurance, and instill hope, belief in each other and your relationship. You can convey a positive attitude by making statements, such as ?We can and will do better,? ?We are a team,? ?We each have our part, and together we?re unbeatable,? ?there?s no problem too big it can?t be solved,? ?I believe in you, believe in me; we can do this!?

As a tool, conscious communication guides the energies we bring to our communications, so that, as we talk or listen, we remain consciously aware of what is going on inside of us, our feelings, thoughts, what we want and need, etc., in ways that keep us empathically connected and fully present, rather than triggered, thus disconnected and defensive. ?When we feel safe enough to be present, we are more likely express ourself authentically, and thus more likely to be listened to, validated and valued in turn.?It?s an understanding that love and safety are inseparable experiences to our brains and bodies. When we feel loved or loving, we feel safe; and when we feel safe, we feel loved or loving.

Clear communication is an inner driven focus to grow strong, mutually enriching relationships. Like giving and receiving, the effects of how you talk are inseparable from how you listen. They are intricately connected. You are not likely to reach and open the heart of a person you most care about by becoming solely proficient in the 8 attributes of conscious-talking.

In Part 2, we discuss 5 attributes of conscious-listening.

Medicaid expansion would bring jobs and money, advocates say

Supporters pushing Gov. Rick Scott and the Republican-controlled Legislature to approve?Medicaid expansion?under the federal health care overhaul said the move would provide a needed jolt to?Florida?s still-fragile economy.

Families USA released a report that said making more lower-income Floridians eligible for health coverage under Medicaid will yield 71,300 new jobs and pump $8.9 billion more in economic activity into the state.

Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, said given the broad social and economic reach of a Medicaid expansion, ?A refusal would be an act of fiscal malpractice.?

House and Senate committtees examining the Affordable Care Act and its effect on Florida are looking likely to recommend a direction on Medicaid expansion by early March.? Among the considerations, is whether the federal government will approve the state?s 2011 request?to move?most of the state?s current 3.2 million Medicaid enrollees into?managed care.

Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, chairman of the Senate panel reviewing the law, told the Palm Beach Post there is ?clearly a nexus between the two.?

?Without the waiver, we are not likely to move ahead with expansion,? Negron said.

Federal officials?have been negotiating with the state for two years on the managed care?shift, but?the two sides are expected to be close to reaching agreement.

Families USA, a health care advocacy organization, said?that many of the new jobs?it forecasts will be created in the health care industry, already a huge employer in Florida. But the amount?of revenue pumped into the state with the expansion ? which could amount?to $26 billion over the next decade ? will also course through many areas of the workforce, the report concludes.

"This is a big deal," says Kaliat Ramesh, a professor of mechanical engineering at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. "You really should view this meteoroid we saw in Russia as a wake-up call" regarding the hazards even small objects can present, he adds.

Indeed, it's a day of multiple wake-up calls.

At 2:24 p.m. EST today, asteroid 2012 DA14 passed within a scant 17,200 miles of?Earth ? a whisker in cosmic terms.

The asteroid is about 150 feet across and poses no threat to Earth, astronomers say, although an object of that size could take out a major metropolitan area if it collided with the planet. But the asteroid's close approach provides a unique opportunity for researchers to track and study it in ways that could improve their ability to distinguish truly hazardous asteroids in near-Earth orbits from the more benign objects.

Russia's meteor, however, has been anything but benign.

The first reports of the meteor came in a 7:55 a.m. local time, with many people capturing the event using video cameras installed in their cars.

The meteor, perhaps the size of a small cargo truck, was traveling at about 33,000 miles per hour. It exploded into fragments somewhere between 18 and 30 miles above the Earth. The shock wave from the blast ? heard in the central Russian cities of Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, and Tyumen ? blew out windows at locations closest to the meteor's path. At least 950 people were injured, mostly from flying glass, according to the Moscow Times.

In addition, a zinc factory was damaged, and cell-phone service was knocked out in some areas.

Although the event occurred as asteroid 2012 DA14 was on its final approach to its close encounter with Earth, the different paths the two objects traveled make it unlikely the meteor was a 2012 DA14 cast-off.?

Astronomers will have a better sense of the meteor's final orbit once they study the video that's available from the event, says Gareth Williams, an astronomer and associate director of the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center in Cambridge, Mass..

He explains that the video will allow researchers to reconstruct the meteor's path through the atmosphere in three dimensions. They can use this information to calculate the meteor's most probable orbit before its demise.

This was one of countless objects in near-Earth orbits that had eluded detection, despite efforts over the past 15 years to take a detailed census of these objects.?

The meteor "was not seen before it entered the atmosphere," Mr. Williams says. Had it been detected and reported to the center, it would have received a designator, similar to 2012 DA14, and we all could be describing this event as a collision with a small asteroid, he suggests.

Researchers say that objects the size of the Chelyabinsk meteor?enter the atmosphere once every few years but tend to go unheralded outside the asteroid-hazard community because they enter over oceans or vast stretches of uninhabited land.?
