Gloria MacKenzie, the Zephyrhills woman who won the largest Powerball prize in the nation?s history, is already giving back with an offer to mend the roof of a high school in Maine.
MacKenzie will spend about $2 million to restore the roof of the Schenk High School in East Millinocket, her hometown, the Tampa Tribune said. Mackenzie?s daughter teaches at the school and her son sat on the board and the Board of Selectmen at the school in the past.
The retiree, who purchased her ticket on May 18 in Zephyrhills, took the lump sum payment of $371 million for her winning Powerball ticket, which amounted to about $278 million after taxes. The school?s Superintendent Quenten Clark told the Tribune that the donation comes as a ?real blessing to the community.?
